Roberts Paint & Body, Inc. was founded in September 1975 by the Roberts Brothers, Jerry and Jim, both of Chelsea, Michigan. The brothers began fixing cars in Jerry’s garage and as their reputation for quality repairs spread through the area, they moved to a 3,000 sq. foot facility on Old U.S. 12 next to Thompson’s Pizza. Brother John joined the business in 1980 and became a partner in 1985 when the Roberts brothers built a 7,000 sq. foot facility in Chelsea’s Industrial park. Jim left the business soon after for other business pursuits in Florida.
Three additions later, the current facility is more than 15,000 sq. ft., repairs an average of 40 vehicles per week and employs 23 people. There are 5 state certified mechanics in unitized body repair technicians, 3 painters, two paint helpers and 2 detail persons. The office support staff includes 4 state certified mechanics in unitized body repair that manage, estimate, order parts and provide the quality control for final inspections. There are 2 customer service support staff who assist customers in placing claims, answer questions and help to insure a smooth repair process by handling a myriad of details for the customers and insurance companies.
Processing a customer’s claim is easier today than any time in the past. We simply take photos of the damage and electronically send the photos and parts needed to the insurance company. The insurance company sends back an estimated time for repairs and how much they will pay for the repair. No comparsion estimates are needed. Most of the larger insurance companies use these electronic programs which have greatly reduced the repair time process.

In February of 2005, the Roberts family welcomed a new family into the business by forming a partnership with Matthew Mason. Matt has served as administrative manager for the business for four years and brings 20 years of business savvy to the company. “We are excited to have a new partner with fresh and innovative ideas, “commented John Roberts. Matt’s wife Tammy joined the business in September of 2005 as coordinator for one of the direct repair insurance programs.

Roberts is truly a family affair. John’ wife, Maggie is the comptroller of the business and their daughter Anji Barbour handles accounts payables and assists customers through the claims process. Their son, Gary Dosey, maintains their state of the art computer system which used for electronic communications with all major insurance companies.
Marty Mason, Matt’s identical twin brother, a nine year employee of Roberts, manages the shop, coordinates all vehicle repairs and works with insurance adjusters.
